Some characters stay in a nursery long after a child has worked out how the rhyme ends, and Humpty is reliably one of them. This one is made by hand for us in New York, his face embroidered onto natural linen with pale blue eyes, round red cheeks and a wide red grin, with tufts of ginger yarn hair sticking up on either side. His body is navy cotton printed all over with small white stars and tied with a white satin bow at the collar, and the rice filling gives him enough weight to sit upright on a shelf or a windowsill without tipping over. He is small enough to tuck into a basket and sturdy enough to be handled.
