A long table set outside in the last good light of the year, with a barn behind it and quilts airing on the line. Everyone is here: a woman carrying a dish to the table, children waiting on chairs, someone in a straw hat pouring, geese wandering in the grass, a ladder still propped against the apple tree from the picking. Loré Pemberton paints the harvest supper as the thing it actually is, which is a lot of work followed by everyone sitting down together.
