Nine arches of layered maple, each a different color, that are as much acoustic instruments as they are blocks. Balance them and they hold, which is easier than it looks and endlessly reconfigurable. Tap them and they ring, each arch at its own pitch. Heiko Hillig designed it for Naef, the Swiss maker who has been producing this kind of object since the fifties, and the appeal is the same as it was then: a small number of beautifully made pieces that reward being handled rather than assembled toward any particular end.
