An old forest tree holds a whole neighborhood in Phoebe Wahl’s Gnome Home, with a round red door at its roots and little windows tucked into the bark. Laundry hangs between the branches, fairies flit among the neighbors, and a passing skunk goes about its own business. Small scenes invite a closer look, from the mushrooms below to a gnome perched comfortably overhead. This archival print captures the layered textures of Wahl’s watercolor, gouache, colored pencil, and collage, with a white border framing a woodland world for a child’s room or a favorite corner of the house.
