First published in 1953 and brought back as a Little Golden Book, this gentle story begins when Rabbit finds an egg and sets out to discover whom it belongs to, only for the little creature who hatches to be unlike anyone else in the meadow, with a bit of something borrowed from Duck, Beaver, and Squirrel all at once. Richard Scarry's early artwork is soft and full of charm, with Rabbit and his friends bundled into their tiny suspenders, sweaters, and caps, and the story's quiet message about welcoming someone just as they are lands sweetly for even the smallest listeners. It's a lovely little book to share at bedtime and one that is easy to read again and again!
