Shasta has grown up in Calormen believing he is a fisherman's son, until the night he overhears that he is to be sold and meets Bree, a talking Narnian warhorse who has been living far from home just as long. The two set out north toward Narnia and freedom, falling in along the way with a runaway noblewoman and her own talking mare, and arrive in the middle of events much larger than their escape. Published in 1954, The Horse and His Boy is the third book in The Chronicles of Narnia and stands on its own, since it takes place during the reign of the four Pevensie children rather than following on from their story. This edition prints Pauline Baynes's original illustrations in full color throughout.
